We had a very disappointing experience with Napa Valley Spa, not because of the treatment itself—we never even received one—but because of the complete lack of customer service and the unprofessional behavior of the owner. When we booked our appointment, there was nowhere during the booking process that clearly stated the gender of the therapist assigned to us. The only mention of this policy appeared in a confirmation email that stated: “If you have a gender preference or are booked for a couples service, please reply in advance. Declining a therapist upon arrival is considered a same-day cancellation and will be charged in full.” The problem is that this confirmation email wasn’t sent until less than two hours before our scheduled appointment. Expecting customers to confirm a therapist preference with such little notice is unreasonable. By the time the email arrived, we were already preparing to travel to the spa, and there was virtually no opportunity to review the information and respond. If confirming the gender of your therapist is a requirement to avoid being charged in full, that information should be presented clearly during the booking process—not communicated for the first time less than two hours before the appointment. When we arrived and realized the situation, we politely spoke with the owner to explain that we had a gender preference and genuinely had not been given a reasonable opportunity to address it beforehand. Rather than showing any understanding or attempting to find a solution, the owner was dismissive, rude, and unprofessional. There was no empathy, no willingness to accommodate us, and no appreciation that we were visitors from out of town trying to support a local business. It is completely reasonable for clients to have a preference regarding the gender of their massage therapist. If declining a therapist results in a full charge, that policy—and the therapist’s gender—should be clearly disclosed before or during the booking process, not in a last-minute confirmation email. We ultimately walked out without receiving any services and were left dealing with the stress of disputing the charges instead of enjoying what was supposed to be a relaxing spa experience. I would not recommend this business based on the lack of professionalism, poor customer service, and unwillingness to treat customers with respect.

Kaitlyn’s technique struck the perfect balance between therapeutic and relaxing—working out deep knots while still creating a calm, restorative experience.
