We went for a hike with a friend and her dog. The restroom facilities were clean. The hand dryer didn't work in the ladies', but air-drying is easy outdoors. The hike options were well laid out on a map at the trailhead. We chose the 2 mile trail. There is also a 5 mile option. The start of the hike was a grind and made me glad we didn't try to bring our dog in his stroller. The trail was shaded a lot of the way, which was nice and kept us from overheating. There were a few more steep hills, but they made for a nice challenge, and seemed to please the mountain bikers. The views were lovely and showed the San Jose skyline and the surrounding hills. This is definitely a great place for a quick getaway and moderate workout.

Narcan Training at the LibraryFamilies across the country are dealing with the health, emotional, and economic effects of the opioid epidemic. The best way to help combat this epidemic is through awareness and education. Together, we can reduce the dangers of opioids and their impact on our communities. Stop by the Los Gatos Library to learn how to use Narcan. This training will be a short training on how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and administer the opioid overdose reversal drug, naloxone. You will take home a box of Narcan to add to your first-aid kit and new resorces for your community

Cascada de Flores: El Abuelo (Ages 2-13)Cascad-ita de Flores: Stories, Song & Dance presents... Original stories told in Spanish & English, using song, a variety of musical instruments, dance, theater and sweet characters of traditional Mexican & Latin American cultures. “El Abuelo” (aka “The Tree and the Donkey who loved to sing”) is an original story that celebrates Mexican traditional music and dance. It tells the story of a lonely tree and a donkey who loves to sing. Their music attracts the birds, the animals and one special human: el Abuelito (grandfather). Children and their families are invited to sing, dance and play with traditional songs and dances from various regions of Mexico. If you are interested in participating in our democratic institutions or just making friends, join us! September's book will be All-American Nativism: How the Bipartisan War on Immigrants Explains Politics as We Know It, by Daniel Denvir. From the publisher's website: It is often said that with the election of Donald Trump nativism was raised from the dead. After all, here was a president who organized his campaign around a rhetoric of unvarnished racism and xenophobia. Among his first acts on taking office was to block foreign nationals from seven predominantly Muslim countries from entering the United States. But although his actions may often seem unprecedented, they are not as unusual as many people believe. This story doesn’t begin with Trump. For decades, Republicans and Democrats alike have employed xenophobic ideas and policies, declaring time and again that “illegal immigration” is a threat to the nation’s security, wellbeing, and future. The profound forces of all-American nativism have, in fact, been pushing politics so far to the right over the last forty years that, for many people, Trump began to look reasonable.
